The location on the south-eastern edge of Leipzig is idyllic, and the apartments with a view of the countryside are much sought after. Nobody could have imagined that this beautiful residential complex would ever make the headlines until that rainy Saturday afternoon in October 2017, when a tenant set fire to his own four walls, triggering an explosion. The man has since been convicted.
March 2019: The house is torn down
Construction work began in March 2019. Initially, the destroyed house with ten apartments will be largely torn down. Then the gap will be closed and all apartments will be rebuilt.
In the 2017 disaster, 20 people lost their homes and one woman was seriously injured.
