New day care centre in Brüderstraße inaugurated

On 24 January 2019, Diakonie Leipzig (Diakonisches Werk Innere Mission Leipzig e.V.) inaugurated its new day care centre "Mosaik" in Brüderstraße not far from Bayerischer Bahnhof. The association is the sponsor of the facility, which has 135 day care places, 46 of them for crèche children and six integration places. The building was constructed by Leipziger Wohnungs- und Baugesellschaft mbH (LWB). This is the second new construction of a day care center since the company was founded. LWB has invested around 2.4 million euros in the new building.

"The 'Mosaik' daycare center is one of the oldest facilities at our plant and will be 139 years old this year," said Pastor Christian Kreusel, mission director and board member of Diakonie Leipzig. "The facility has now moved into its third location, the building that the LWB made available to us in Brüderstraße. We are pleased that this will enable us to expand the capacity of the day care center mosaic to a total of 135 children. In the past three months the children have taken possession of the new rooms and filled them with colorful life. Now the facility is fully occupied."

"The LWB has been helping the city to create social infrastructure for years. The company will continue to invest in new daycare centers in the future," says Ute Schäfer, LWB Director of Finance and Asset Management. The third and next day care center that the LWB is building is located in Watestraße in Leipzig-Lößnig and has 165 places. It will be handed over next month and, like the first two, is located in the immediate vicinity of LWB housing estates.

Further children's facilities in Bernhard-Göring-Straße, Landsberger Straße and at Lindenauer Hafen with a total of more than 400 places are in planning or in preparation. "For the first time, these daycare centers are not individual buildings, but facilities that will be integrated into newly emerging residential ensembles," says Iris Wolke-Haupt, LWB Director of Housing and Construction. This would make it possible to make better use of the available building space, particularly in densely built-up areas of the city.

"We are now on the home stretch in Leipzig when it comes to the day-care center for young families," said Leipzig's Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung at the opening. "By the fall of this year, the situation should have eased considerably - thanks in part to the LWB, which has been and continues to be heavily involved in daycare center construction in recent years. This new day care center in Brüderstraße is particularly helpful to us because it offers families in the city center a new opportunity for child care."

In addition to the construction of new day care centers, the LWB also supports day mothers and fathers. Since 2004, more than 50 individual projects have been created in LWB homes. This is roughly equivalent to the capacity of two daycare centers. In addition, the LWB has leased land under ground lease agreements, on which a further 650 daycare places have been created.

Keyword Diakonisches Werk Innere Mission Leipzig e.V.: Diakonie Leipzig is responsible for eleven daycare centers in Leipzig. With its offers of help for senior citizens, people with disabilities or psychological stress, children and young people, families in difficult circumstances, people in personal life crises or in financial distress, the Diakonie is one of the oldest and most extensive welfare organisations in Leipzig.

Keyword LWB: The LWB is a municipal enterprise which, with more than 35,200 housing units, has a market share of just over one tenth in Leipzig. The sole shareholder is the city of Leipzig. With its own new day-care center construction projects and the granting of hereditary building rights for the purpose of building new day-care centers, the municipal landlord supports the city in creating social infrastructure and at the same time ensures the family-friendly development of the residential quarters.
